Looking for a front axle that is easy to use, lightweight and looks great? The Wolf Tooth Wolf AxleΒ is the perfect fit. Available inΒ a variety ofΒ colors and sizes. Easily installed with a standard hex key.
Unlike other similar products, the WolfΒ AxleΒ uses a captive steel washer under the head to reduce friction on the fork leg. This protects your expensive frame or fork, transfers more of the tightening torque to clamping load for a stiffer interface and prevents the axle from sticking or galling when you want to remove it. These are also a great replacement option for lost or damaged stock axles. Always apply a small amount of grease to the washer and threads when installing.

The original thru axle on my 2018 Trek Emonda has an inward bend in the non-removable handle and does not work on a Tacx Flux 2 without a lot of back and forth and sliding the adjustable handle outward. it took me a while to find the right specs and the 12×1.75, 166mm fits perfectly. There is a new Trek Bontrager branded part that will fit but the right size is out of stock everywhere.

I got this to get rid of the QR thru-axle on my Rocky Mountain. Removing the QR thru-axle drops a few grams & helps prevent wheel theft to some extent. The size guide on the WT website worked perfectly for sizing mine.

Has worked flawlessly on my 2016 trek fuel ex8 with boost spacing

Love the double hex drive. The m12x1.5-178mm was a perfect fit on my Bulls e-stream evo2 hardtail with a boost rear hub.
Crankshaft –
Nice axle that can be personalized with colored end caps

The Marin Rift Zone 1 comes with a silly 141 qr rear axle and if you want to upgrade the wheelset you’re going to want a propper 12×148 boost thru axle. Marin specifies a 174mm long axle with a thread pitch of 1.5. The only thru axle I found that meets every Marin spec is sold by Marin (or Marin dealers) for like $50.I ordered the 172mm wolftooth axle assuming that I’d lose 2mm of thread engagement but it is literally perfect (see picture).Hopefully this saves someone the headache I had shopping for a reasonably priced thru axle. I’m honestly a little miffed at Marin for using a seemingly non-standard length/pitch to replace an already uncommon 141qr.Edit: I should’ve mentioned the bike is a 2019

Having used most other large companies axles such as Fox and SRAM these Wolf Tooth are far better machined and the use of a crush washer is a great addition.

For mountain biking, I prefer straight thru-axles over quick release types because there is no chance of that rare even where a vine snags the quick-release handle thereby loosening that axle. Also, some thieves do not surprisingly carry Allen key sets with them. I now own about six of Wolf Tooth’s thru-axles for three of my higher-end mountain bikes and they are all quality pieces. I believe all of them are machined from 7075 aluminum and they all weigh in the range of 42 to 47 grams.Their only downside? They cost about one dollar for every gram they weigh, … which is usually above my price point. That said, they do fit precisely and when set correctly with a torque wrench to their recommended specs, … do not come loose. Curiously, some of them are almost as long as the thing that protrudes from my nether regions as well, … so there is that as well.Four stars for the high prices but five star products overall.
