I struggled a little with the dimensions provided as they did not compute as a triangle. I thought it was going to be very close in my wife’s 2017 RadCity Ebike, but took a chance and as shown above, it fits with some room to spare. It came on time and was very well packaged. Included an owners manual that covered most things needed. First charge took about 4.5 hours, but the red charging light did turn green. Wiring was pretty straight forward, used the RadCity plug under the frame as a connection point into the original harness – everything works as intended, even the regenerative charging. I expect a significant increase in range as the original battery was 11.6 while this battery is 20 Ah. Will be doing our first long ride today. We rode 20 miles with some hills and some head wind – side by side and while we typically ride in assist level 1, when it got very windy on the way home and my wife went to level 2, so did I. My stock 11.6Ah battery went from 5 bars down to three, and then on down to two bars when I started riding at assist level 2. As we neared the end we went back to power assist 1 and my battery went back up to three bars. Her new UPP 20 Ah battery never was less than 5 bars for the whole ride, regardless of power level. After we parked at home she pressed the on battery charge condition button and it still showed fully charged. We are quite happy with the obvious increase in range with her new battery..I would like to add an update to my review of March 26. Today we rode from Lake McDonald Lodge up the Going to the Sun Road as far as the Loop in Glacier NP – 40 degrees, 28 miles round trip, 2600 ft vertical gain, most of it in the last 4 miles. Again, RadCity bike with direct drive rear wheel motor. My wife rode at assist level 1 for most of the first 10 miles, slight incline up, but when it started being 6 and 7% grade, she went to level 2 for the last 4 miles. The AMAZING part, the battery still showed 5 bars of charge remaining when we got to the Loop. I rode the same bike with the original battery at level 1 for about 97% of the time, and had only 2 bars remaining when we reached the LOOP. I used the regenerative braking going down the steep part, and wound up with 2 bars back at the truck. I am ordering another Unit Pak Power 48V 20 Ah battery today for my bike!! Impressive.

I selected this battery as a balance between capacity and performance vs price for my Mongoose Hitch ebike conversion (Luna/Bafang BBSHD kit, required an XT60 to Anderson adapter to connect the battery to the motor). I’ve only had it for a week, so I can’t comment on durability yet, but the performance is great! I’ve got a 36 tooth Luna chainwheel and a 11-34 8sp DNP Epoch freewheel, was looking for a compromise between hill climbing capability and reasonable cruising speed. So far, so good. My tests on moderate hills in the bluff country of SE MN have been very satisfying, the battery provides enough punch to comfortably climb all of the hills I have encountered at good speed. I tend not to overstress things too much and use lower gears when appropriate. I went up a steep gravel road , ~1/4 mile ascent, in the Zumbro River Valley in 4th gear with pedal assist consuming 1000W at 10-13 mph in the steepest section, pedaling easily at ~90 RPM. I could have gone faster using the throttle to unleash up to 1500W. Also, I still had 3 lower gears I could resort to if needed, so I felt that the bike could handle a lot more yet. It will get its chance soon in CO and NM! In terms of range: I had extrapolated a range of 54 miles to get down to 20% battery capacity (45.4V) based on observed voltage drops on a couple of 13-17 mile rides, using various assist settings and the throttle (which enabled a top speed of over 35 mph drawing 1500W! I can’t pedal fast enough to help out with that, it has to be way more than 120 RPM. My limit of effective pedaling is ~25mph, which seems reasonable to me.) Then an actual measurement: I accumulated mileage of 52.9 miles on one charge — and the battery was still at 49.1V (~40%) according to my DPC-18 display reading, the battery gauge said 50%. I was mostly using pedal assist in the 200-500W range, with occasional use of the throttle for a little boost going up hills or measuring wide open top speed (did this a couple of times). On relatively level terrain with no wind I consistently ride 20-25 mph in 8th gear, pedaling comfortably with an intensity that my 68 year old body can maintain essentially indefinitely. The bike fully equipped with battery weighs 71.4 lbs., the battery contributed 13.4 lbs. of this. I weigh around 180. This battery with the BBSHD is performing as good or better than I had hoped, I am so far very happy with it! We’ll see how it holds up, long term.

I live in ohio with lots of hills and go over lot’s of potholes and get a little over 30 miles of range with one charge going 20 to 30 mph the whole time. It takes about 5 to 6 hours to charge all the way up with a 4A charger depending if i let it die completely or not. It takes less then a dollar to charge!! I try to leave it at the lowest of 30% to keep the battery in very good condition. Some people say the plastic breaks easy but it doesn’t, it depends if you strap it on the bike properly or not if it’ll start to break. You don’t want a lot of sagging in your straps they need to be tight and straight. I did a great job putting it together and it hasn’t broken a bit. I Highly suggest this battery.
