My bag is the DX–the larger bag but without panniers. This is a useful and convenient bike bag for around town. I’d write a perfect review if it were not for the the fact that the zipper to the main compartment fails in about two years of five to seven days a week of use. That ought not to happen–I have other gear whose zippers have lasted for over fifteen years of very rough use. I’d rather put the negative last but for the fact that there is nothing one can do about the problem if out of the two year warrantee period. I just called their 800-258-3068 number and the agent confirmed that they can neither repair nor replace my about three year old bag.But you will get good use out of the bag for two years or so of regular use. It’s got convenient side pockets and a main compartment that’s big enough for a small to medium sized grocery purchase. It has a top mesh pocket that I find useful to take care of overflow (there are stretchable ties to lash a foot long three inch wide item down). There is a detachable strap that is useful if you want to walk around with the bag, for example at a market or a store. The bag very conveniently slides onto a bike rack and clicks into place so the bag will not fall off and the release mechanism is quick and easy. The bag does not come with a lock but it could be locked to the bike with a thin cable. The rack itself is a special one and requires a separate purchase of about $35 (in 2018).The picture shows the bag in place on my Specialized Mountain Bike.If it weren’t for the zipper problem I’d give this bike 5 stars. As it is, I think my 4 stars are a shade generous.

I didn’t want to spend the money for this bag or the rack mount that it requires. I looked at a variety of other options on Amazon and even bought one of the less expensive and slightly smaller units available. In the end, this bag is very high quality and the rack system with its slide in track and locking system is super convenient.I purchased the bag version that does not have panniers. This allows more storage in the side pockets. I am able to get all my essential tools including my portable air pump all into one side pocket. The other side pocket holds my wallet, phone and personal items. I placed my small cable lock in the rear water bottle pocket because I rarely carry extra water.. There is an interior pocket in the lid of the center storage area that holds my bike keys, lock keys and other small items. The center storage compartment is very large and extends even taller if needed. Right now I keep a spare tube and a couple other items that use a very small portion of the available space. The outer lid has a mesh pocket and an elastic laced hold down area. I have not found a great use for this area yet. I do wish the mesh pocket had a velcro seal so I could trust any contents to stay in there throughout my ride. This is my first rear rack and bag and I have found 2 issues that I hadn’t thought too much about previously. First is there is no view of the bag while riding, I can’t turn my head enough to see any of it to make sure everything is okay. The second issue is that I am getting older and it was already getting difficult to mount up by swinging my leg up and over the seat, now I need to keep that leg high enough to clear the entire rear bag and the seat.I previously used a handlebar mounted bag which worked great, I love having more storage with the new rear bag for day trips or runs to the hardware or grocery store. I really love the handlebar area that has been freed up now that the front bag is no longer needed.

Itβs so fast to get in and off. It holds what I need to take to and from work. It helps me choose the bike over the car more often.

This is a very well made and designed bag by Topeak. I carry close to 12lb of things I may need for my Ebike and it all fits in this bag. Fat tire tube, tools, gloves, battery operated air pump,co2 cartridges, small can fix a flat, and 2-16oz water bottle plus a few other things and still have a small space left. It also seems to be water resistant, got caught out in a hard rain for close to 2 hours the other day. When I got home the outside of the bag was still damp. But the inside was dry.

I bought the soft tail M2 rack because I’m on a VIVI Electric Mountain bike and I wanted to use it as a commuter as well. The Topeak M2 is the only rack which makes sense. Seat post racks are for the birds. I soon discovered this rack was special in that it has a special track for their line of bags! And that’s what led me to select this one.I got a lesser-priced one that looked just like another one that had panier bags that unfolded from a zipper pouch on each side of the bag. The one I bought didn’t have that feature. Just as well… I’m riding a soft tail mountain style bike.I used to strap my lunch bag to the back of a seat post rack and “it worked” but took around 1-2 minutes of work to get it mounted securely and another 1-2 to remove it. Royal pain. This bag holds about the same amount as my lunch bag. So I’m good to go … better to go really.Only wish would be “make one that is suitable for being a lunch bag!” At the moment I simply put my stuff in a sturdy plastic bag (two actually) and then drop that into the bike bag. It works. But if there was a spill, I’d be less than happy. But if there was a hard plastic insert or something like that? “chef’s kiss!” Would be awesome.
