   Very heavy and large chain, which is what I wanted. I received it without the “free steel ring”, but the seller promptly mailed me one (from China so it took a while to receive. This basically allows you to use the chain at 3.5 ft or so, making it equivalent to a 6-7ft chain that you need to loop all the way around.

   So, straight to the point… the chain itself is a beast. No question about it. Thick, heavy-duty steel. Excellent welds. No casual thief is going to bother with this thing. Even the chain covering is good quality, durable material.But the lock itself has plastic housing. It’s quite heavy, so I know there are metal parts inside. Maybe it’s tough as nails. But it looks and feels like something that would not deter a casual thief. Granted, no lock can stop a determined thief. But you want to be a troublesome target, so they move on to an easier target. This lock… I don’t know… looks like an easy target to me.It’s a padlock style lock with a completely removable shackle. The body is plastic and honestly, I’m quite sure I could remove it with a few blows from a regular hammer. OTOH, the shackle is a nice thick steel that penetrates deep into the body of the lock, and is well-designed to prevent the use of bolt cutters, although (again) it’s only protected by the plastic body.My plan was to use this on our two e-Bikes that we carry on the back of our camper van. But I’m just not super-comfortable with the lock. Also, the chain itself is SOOO heavy that I’m afraid it might damage the bikes, bend spokes, etc. And while it is longer than most, it’s not long enough to go around both wheels of both bikes and also anchor to the bike rack. I tried lots of arrangements to no avail.Overall, I’m a bit “mixed” on this chain and lock. The chain itself is a beast. But the lock is not heavy-duty enough to deter a casual thief, IMO. At this price-point, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect a rugged, heavy-duty metal case for the lock.

   The whole thing has some weight to it. I was indifferent about the lock itself at first because the shell seems plastic. It is an additional security measure I use to lock my bike. So far I like it and hope it never gets tested but I’m happy with it.

   For a little more weight you get much more peace of mind. It’s also reasonable priced for what you get. It also has a unique feature where the length acts as a chai that is much longer. Used on an electric bike I don’t notice the weight. I think it’s worth the added security on any bike.

   To be honest using this for my outside generator and so far perfect. Sturdy and well made with no rust after a month or two of use.
