Without a doubt, our favorite non-bolt on bike accessory is shoes. New shoe day feels our hearts with glee and hopefully, our feet with comfort. It’s no secret that we’re fans of Lake shoes here and the CX 241 Road Shoe is no exception. Features like Boa closures, full grain leather upper, and carbon sole check off everything we look for when shopping for new kicks. This shoe is race ready and looks great. The CX/TX Competition last still offers a roomy toe box but has a tighter heel than the Sport last found on some of Lake’s other offerings for a snugger, glove-like fit that’s perfect for high-cadence spinning and big wattage efforts. A heat moldable carbon heel counter allows for fine-tuning of the fit and the Nufoam lining feels like it’s giving your foot a hugging embrace every time you put the shoes on. Down below, the lightweight and stiff Lake Race carbon fiber sole with drillings for a 3-hole road cleat put the power to the pedals. Like we’ve seen on Lake’s Endurance mountain bike shoes, the CX 241 gets hardier materials for the upper ensuring excellent durability and long life. Full grain leather is supple, easily contouring to your foot’s shape while the higher wear areas like the toe and heel receive Helcor Abrasion resistant leather for increased resilience. Dialing in the fit, and easy to adjust on the fly is the almost now ubiquitous dual side mounted Push/Pull IP1 BOA lacing system with releasable lace guides.

I wear an 11 wide so its hard to find a shoe that feels comfortable right out the bat. Sure, you can take a risk and buy a shoe that, hopefully, breaks in well but it can be an expensive gamble. With this shoe and its separated body panels, the shoe comfortable conforms to my foot at the outset. Been using it for a few weeks on the trainer and have not experienced any pain or aches on the foot.

So Lake is one of only TWO cycling shoe companies who actually make a wider sole for their wide sized shoes. Other companies use the same sole and just sew on a bigger toe box (so your shoe just hangs over the edges)I was wearing a Shimano 44 wide and went to the LAKE 43 wide- perfect fit. Overall quality, F’n amazing. Love getting back to real leather. The double Boa closure that has the back-out option is a bonus (cheaper Boa’s dont offer this). I’m VERY happy!! Thanks Lake, I’ll be back for my next pair!!!

I love the fit and adjustability. I have done 5 or 6 1-3 hr rides so far with the shoes and no major foot pain!

It was hard finding a US size15 shoe that also offered wide options. Thatβs a 50 EU btw. These are Excellent shoe. Extremely comfortable, and I like the 2nd boa strap further down – makes for a more customized fit. I appreciate the design but wish it looked better.

Should’ve bought these sooner.

I wear an 11 wide always but this shoe was way too small. Going to try the 12 wide. Seems like a quality shoe but didn’t fit so going to try again.

Order process was goofy, the site shoes in US size but converts incorrectly to EU size when adding to cart. Figured out a US 14 translated to EU 45. Got the shoes dang near overnight. They are comfortable, wide and fit perfectly. The carbon sole is stiff and gives that extra power. Have ridden many 3-4 hour rides and my feet feel great! Highly recommend!!

I thought and some of the documentation said I ordered a size 47, other documentation said I ordered a 43.5. Sadly I got the 43.5. The shoe is lightweight and most wonderful leather. I got a return auth from Amazon and directly ordered the correct size from Backcountry. I did have to pay for the second pair of shoes and now have to wait for the first pair to be refunded. I thought since the order was messed up maybe Backcountry would send out expedited at no charge but no such luck – I had to pay $20 extra for 2-day shipping. So now I am waiting for what proposes to be a wonderful shoe, and for my $370 refund.
