Shimano Ultegra R8000 Brake CalipersThis is a honest review to benefit the average consumer looking into spending hard earned money on upgrades for their bike.Β I purchased this set of Caliper brakes about 2 weeks ago. This is my 2nd pair. Unfortunately, the original set I purchased came with a couple issues. Calipers came with some cosmetic damage. Also, one of my rear brake pads came with a metal pin lodged into it causing damage to the braking surface of my rims. I would suggest to thoroughly inspect them before installing. They sent out a replacement pair quick at no charge and happily compensated for the damages. I installed them immediately! A couple of things to note before purchasing.1. I’m riding 700x32c and they barely clear.I mean barely! May also vary on what type of tire you have. I ride a pair of Continental GP5000’s (Road Tire) no tread patten. Compared to like a WTB tire with more of Gravel tread pattern. Worth mentioning.2. For the price, No cables or housing is included and they require a certain type of cable housing (Shimano SLR Brake Cable Housing) which luckily came with the pair of new Shimano brake levers I purchased separately.Β I wanted something I can rely on for long steep decents. I’ve put about 250 miles on them (Trip to Ojai CA.) and it is a significant upgrade to my bikes stopping performance. The ease and response of these is excellent! The look is sleek and gorgeous! Gave my bike a more aggressive look, Love it!! Quality build and materials. I now look forward to fast decents and handle them with a lot more confidence. I’d give these a 5 if there wasn’t an unfortunate manufacturing defect, insufficient product info and no included cables or housing. C’mon, for the price. Overall I’m happy with my purchase. I’m satisfied with the way Amazon and seller took care of the situation.Satisfied purchase!

These are GREAT mechanical, center-pull, dual pivot caliper brakes!Wish I would have had these A LONG TIME AGO!Very easy to install EXCEPT, I needed to either use two Rear Mount Brakes (longer center-mount screw needed) to easily mount the brakes. So I used the Rear-Mount Brakes on the Front, through the crown of the forks.Used the Front-Mount Brakes on the Rear, through the seat stay bridge, via manipulation of parts from the no longer used DΓa-Compe brakes.Otherwise, I would have NOT been able to mount these brakes! Supposedly, from the User Manual supplied with the brakes, the Front-Brakes, have a longer screw, than the Rear-Brakes… really? Why? Especially with going through the crown of the forks?I may have this backwards… but advise you to be aware! But in any case, one brake has a shorter mounting bolt than the other! I need to ask, is it necessary to have this, couldnβt you just have both brakes with the longer bolt and be done with it!?Maybe this would be helpful, for those that are reading my scribble…Mounted these brakes on a:1982 Schwinn Traveler Road BikeAgain, FANTASTIC Upgrade To The Bike, didnβt want to go to disc-brakes or DI-2!After installation, DEFINITELY NOT going disc-brakes, NO NEED!Now the next project… upgrading the drivetrain to 11 speed! Debating 3x or 2x, Tiagra (3x) or Ultegra (2x) Groupsets, need those low gears!Chro-Moly frame… so rear stays, should spread!

Had some Cane Creek SCR-3’s that had marginal stopping power. These Shimano’s have power to spare. I’m a big guy, needed some brakes with some beef behind them. These are it! I locked up my rear tire the first few times I stopped. WOW, big improvement over the Cane’s. Wished I’d bought them earlier.

The Ultegra Rim Brake, double pivite design is BY FAR the perfect brake for the price, being under $300An extremly strong grip, not at all spongey or soft, I live in Chicago and we have some damp and rainey early mornings and I can say with complete honesty, in the rain, I STOP!!!! Not on a dime but because I can dial in the brake pads so close to the rim, my braking in the rain has become a non issue now. I used others and it was horrid, NOT NOW!!! I love the feel and the power when I brake. And with the disk brakes, I was almost always adjusting them, constantly!!!! NOT ANY MORE!!!!!

Replaced my Cervelo P3 brakes with these. Had to change the brake handles and cables also just so you know. Not a super simple east task but since Magura RT 6 brake parts are just about no existent, I believe it was worth the effort.

Arrived in original packaging but with minor paintjob rubs on the brake pad’s metal cage. If you aren’t OCD about aesthetic perfection β no issues. Works nicely with my Sram Rival 22, easy to install and no need to re-center constantly as my previous Sram Red brakes. Stopping power is massive so recommended as an upgrade brakeset
