** INITIAL REVIEW: 2 stars ** (Scroll down to see update.)This helmet is gorgeous and incredibly lightweight, but the advice to size down if youβre on the cusp was 100% wrong for my head shape. My head is 57cm or hat size 7 1/8, and is a βlong ovalβ shape, which means long front to back and narrow side to side. I wear:- a large in womenβs hats- a medium in menβs hats- a medium in most bike helmets (Giro, Bell, etc.)- a medium in most motorcycle helmets (Shoei, Arai, etc.)(FWIW, the size medium in the Nutcase Street helmet β a competitor that a lot of people try before shelling out for this Chapter helmet β is too tight on me, and the large is comically big. That helmet just doesnβt work for me at all.)57 cm is on the cusp between small and medium in most helmets, including this one by Thousand. So following their fit advice as well as that of other reviewers β and against my own better judgment β I sized down to a small in this Chapter helmet.Bad move. π It pinches my head front to back. Awful pressure points; immediately headache-inducing.Itβs a beautiful helmet, but Iβm annoyed at the misguided advice to size down. Now I need to exchange it for a different size. Will update my review pending a response from Thousand customer service.** UPDATE, two weeks later: 5 stars **Thousand customer service was great. They sent me a medium right from their warehouse in California, and it fits perfectly! Shipping was free. I returned the size small to Amazon. Now that the helmet fits correctly, Iβve explored all the accessories that come in the box.Based on other reviews, I think Thousand has fixed the issue with the magnetic USB tail-light turning on while charging. While I charged mine, only one small LED gently flickered (and then held steady when the charge was full). It certainly wasnβt blinking at full brightness while charging, like reviewers from previous years mentioned. The light does automatically turn on when it magnetically snaps on your helmet. And holy cow is it BRIGHT. I can see how this would be really useful in many cases but annoying in others.I love the pop-lock feature and can easily fit my U-lock through it.Iβm convinced that, with MIPS, this is the best helmet on the market. Itβs SO pretty and lightweight, it looks cool, itβs super functional, and I love the companyβs free replacement policy. I love this helmet!

There is a lot of love out there for the original helmet design. And I liked it a lot. But it just wasn’t padded appropriately, and I ended up finding it rather uncomfortable, especially in the forehead area.So I switched to this one. It seems lighter, better ventilated, and is certainly, at least for me, more comfortable.I like the company story, what they are trying to do. I like the style and many of the design features. I do hope that with future versions they can continue to build on the padding inside the helmet to increase comfort. But this IS good enough to keep and will be the primary helmet I wear on my ebike. You could probably find some cheaper alternatives that protect your head just as well. But sometimes it’s worth a little bit more to like what you wear.

It’s certainly a very stylish helmet. I bought it purely for tooling around town and it fits the bill. The MIPS system is a very thin inner “helmet” made of plastic (about the thickness of an old-fashioned xray print) that allows the outer helmet to slide a bit if it gets a glancing blow. Protecting your head from that kind of all-too-common accident, like when you snag your head on a branch out on a trail and get your neck whipped around. Won’t happen as badly thanks to MIPS. The helmet also has a nice adjustment dial at the back to really lock the helmet under your occipital bone. All good! The bad…. the padding! The pads are about 1/16″ thick (1.5mm), so thin that I can feel the velcro hooks underneath. It’s especially aggravating on my forehead. Speaking of which, the MIPS “shell” extends a bit beyond the padding, meaning that when I wrinkle my forehead (when smiling, for instance), then it digs into my skin. Could just be my big head – I bought the Large Helmet and it barely fits. A good bike helmet is supposed to be very snug.. but not supposed to irritate your skin!Bottom line, I’m spending another $10 to get 1/4″ (6mm) aftermarket pads. If it works, then I’m fine with the helmet, if not then it’s getting returned. Very disappointing that a $145 helmet has such poor padding. Also, every helmet I’ve ever bought (Bell, Giro) has included some extra little foam pads. I was shocked that this one didn’t. So value is definitely lacking here. I still like the helmet enough to be paying essentially $155 for it, but if you this is a lot of money for you then look elsewhere. This helmet will protect your head, but you’re paying for style. You can get great protection cheaper elsewhere.Update: 5/16″ foam pad kit did the trick. This: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00BSXIHAI?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details (Replacement Universal Foam Pads Kit 5/16″ Giro and Bell Bike Cycling Helmet). Remember to place the front pad so it overlaps the lip of the MIPS shell a little bit, enough to protect your skin. I still like the helmet, but not thrilled that I had to spend an extra $10.99+tax, it’s already a spendy helmet.

I tried on a couple helmets before this one. Never wore helmets unless I was riding my old dirt bike. So for bicycling I’m not used to it. Finally found one that is comfortable enough to wear. I do wish it had the leather strap instead of this nylon. Either way, it works and may for you too.

This helmet is comfy and stylish. I love the little visor, the color and the blinking light! One can recharge the light easily and in a short time. A little high in price, but I felt it was worth it.

Iβve been having trouble finding a helmet that would fit me because of my head shape, but this one fits perfectly and comfortably!
