This is a brilliant design. It must be installed very carefully and all 6 straps must be properly positioned and tight. It took me about 20 minutes to get it right, but it works great. If you are not mechanically inclined, it may be a challenge! I also bought the straps (2) to tie down and stabilize front and rear wheels. I read that people were concerned about bike pedal banging/scratching car so I took a washcloth for a pad and duct-taped it to pedal. That worked very well. β¦just completed 2000 mile round trip including big storms. I am very happy with this product.

I donβt normally post reviews but thought I would give some information about this product. First, I want to say that once on my car it feels sturdy, locks in the bike very well, and gives me confidence it will not fall off at any speed. Setting it up was easy but attaching it to my vehicle was not.The instructions that were included were woefully inadequate and short on specifics. There is a lot of figuring out what to do on your own to maneuver the arms into place. It seems intuitive but nothing in the directions tells you the process. The biggest issue I encountered was getting the hooks on in the right position. The upper hooks were easy and the side hooks needed some encouragement and hopefully wonβt damage my trunk. It was the bottom hooks that would not go in unless I opened the trunk which causes issues and makes installation difficult. My solution was to extend the straps on the bottom hooks, lie the rack on the ground, close the trunk with those hooks in place and finish the installation as normal. This makes it quicker to put on after a long ride.

Saris makes fantastic bike products and the two-bike Bones rack is no different. The Good:Once you have the instructions, assembling the Bones is almost laughably easy. It takes about 5 minutes of gently sliding and arranging the arms. Saris makes goof-proof straps that are labeled! Most welcome when trying to mount the rack during the evening or in a parking lot.The rack is both lightweight and solid, easily adapted to ensure a solid, secure fit with your vehicle. It fits my sedan as well as my Outback SUV, though the placement of the clips sort of sucks on the Outback for where it needs to anchor.Anchors are solid, firm metal. The plastic straps supporting the bikes have strong teeth, making sure they hold tight. Every fit and finish is thoughtfully positioned so as to support a bicycle, but not damage it.The Bad:The assembly process to mount the Bones on your car may take two people to really ensure it’s secure. Bear in mind if you need. The 75 lb weight limit is just a reality with this kind of design, but given I own a cruiser, I wish it could carry a smidge more. My bikes together are 80 lbs.For transparency, Amazon delivered a clearly used and damaged Bones rack to me. It didn’t have its original box. It was dirty, lacked instructions, and several straps were nearly completely torn through. I sent it back immediately and an Amazon associate dispatched a fresh new Bones for me.The Verdict:Probably one of the best trunk-based bike racks you can get.Extra Note:Buy the paint-protecting squares with this kind of rack, especially if you have an Outback. If you have a cruiser, you need an additional cruiser bar to support the frame.

Overall like the other reviews it’s a really nice trunk rack. My 2022 XL mtb fits really good in it and it doesn’t move. One con is that the front wheel is not secured so it will move around unless you McGyver something and in my case I tied the handle bar to the bike frame. Another con is that it looked used. This has been happening lately with Amazon when I bought something new and it looks like it’s been used.

While the assembly directions are fairly challenging, adding this rack to the trunk of an A4 was fairly simple. I haven’t yet taken bikes on the long road trip for which I bought this, they seem solidly carried on the rack. Users should note that the rack should be set higher on the upper trunk edge than seems rights; once the bikes are installed, their weight brings the upper and lower feet into correct position. Trial and error required.

The rack was easy to install on a Hyundai Sonata. Held a little over the recommended weight safely.
