With my body not getting any younger, I had been eyeing the original Sand Dipper for a while, but had seen so many people wishing it had bigger than the 4″ basket on there. This version has the 6″ basket, and on my very first trip out with it to my local beach (Folly Beach, SC), I was able to snag a few shark teeth out of the water that would have been nearly impossible to get with my hands! The netting was small enough to catch the tooth in the attached picture, which would have fallen out of many other similar scoops that are available. It’s also large and durable enough to get many other sized items with ease. The best part… it saved my back from all the bending over I would typically do!It extends to be about 5′ long, but I found that was way too long for me. It’s fully adjustable so you can find what is comfortable for you. There is a very comfortable cork handle and a wrist strap. I did have the handle slide off the end of the pole once, but I just pushed it back on tightly and it’s been secure since. This can also be modified to be used as a walking stick, although i haven’t tested it out yet.If you are looking for a scoop where you don’t have to bend down to pick up your favorite shells or shark teeth on your local beach, this one is highly recommended by me. I know that this will be with our family for many beach days to come!

We actually had two of the prior versions with the smaller basket. We like our new ones with bigger baskets. Much better for shelling! Our two prior ones were used about once a week and lasted just over a year and a half. Would have liked them to last longer but it was used in the saltwater of the Gulf and perhaps that is all that can be expected. The end of my first one came off where it meets the stick, after 9 months of use, but superglue kept it attached. I accidentally left it on a remote island a week ago and it was time to reorder. My husband had a blue one and the basket broke off after about a year and a half. It left only a “Claw” on the bottom and the basket could not be re-attached with glue. These are lightweight and function well. We both liked our first ones well enough that when it was time for new ones we ordered the same brand, just with the bigger baskets. Time will tell if these are more durable. I love the hot pink color and of course, my HH has a blue one.
