First off, this is a very solid adapter, and should do the job very well for those who need one. I have compared it to others by Saris (my favorite), Swagman, and Allen. The Yakima Tube Top does not have an internal tension band, but it really doesn’t need it. Once it’s sitting in the rack cradles, and strapped down, it’s not going anywhere. The one thing that I really didn’t like is that it has an exposed nut on one side. It’s not anything you would really notice…until your rack strap catches on it, which mine did often. I also think that this exposed nut and screw end might be prone to rusting over time, although I really can’t be sure of that. For me, the biggest issue was whether I actually need a top tube adapter. My hybrid bike does sit on the rack at a fairly steep angle, but it’s very secure when strapped down on the rack, and even at the steep angle, the lowest (front) tire still has 19″ of clearance from the road. When I called Yakima about the angle of my bike on my Yakima rack I was told I needed this Tube Top. The problem is that while it improves the angle of the bike on the rack (and it’s only a marginal improvement), the bike sits lower, and the lowest tire road clearance is down to 13″.I don’t plan on doing any real off-road driving, so I really don’t know what the minimum safe road clearance would be. It just seems to me that 19″ of clearance is better than 13″. I really don’t know how important it is to have a bike hanging on a rack at about a 30 degree angle instead of a 40 degree angle.Of course Yakima wants me to keep the Tube Top, but I’m not sure if I really need it.

Using this as the top tube to hang on an older Bell rack. Works great. Easy to install. Stable when underway. Had been concerned about weight rating. e-bike is 55 lbs with battery, about 47 without. So far, adaptor is holding up well. Recommended.

A must have for any bikes with a slanted top tube (ie. mountain bikes or women’s casual bikes). The adapted bar holds my Trek Fuel level and behind the trunk out of the wind (see photo). Before (without the adapter), one of my wheels was up in the air and I was afraid that the wind would rip the bike off at highway speeds. With the adapter bar, it’s a non-issue and I don’t worry about it now.The bar feels very solid and sturdy and the weight limit should be adequate for most bikes (maybe not for ebikes or downhill bikes). The closure mechanism feels very secure and I like how the ends overlap for additional support. One nice feature is the rubber end has a groove that keeps the handlebars from twisting and prevents the front tire from rubbing on my bumper.I have another adapter bar (thinner bar with the white label in the photo) that feels much more flimsy (and has a lower weight limit). I thought the clamp would be useful on the cheaper bar to prevent it from extending, but it doesn’t really work very well and isn’t necessary. The two bars aren’t even comparable, and I definitely prefer the Yakima top tube adapter.

Works great!

With a four-bike rack, we could only fit 3 bikes, and my women’s bike just wouldn’t fit on the rack correctly. This bar fixed that, and we now have no problem loading all 4 for a family bike trip. It’s easy to use and feels heavy and sturdy.

These things are lifesavers. If you have ever tried to mount 3 mountain bike on the back of your car you need this. It makes putting them on your car soooo much easier. It used to take 30 minutes and all of my patience but now Iβm done with in 10 minutes. The bikes fit the way they should when you use these on your bike. Over time the bolts that secure the clamp to the cross tube sometimes either get loose or too tight. I found that a little marine glue works good and donβt over tighten the bolts otherwise it makes it so hard to open and close the latch. I definitely recommend these though.

This bar makes it easier to load a step through bike on a bike hitch. Works as advertised. Only negative is that there is not much in the way of protective cushioning around the collars. This could lead to paint loss on your bike. Took it on the highway at 70 mph. Did not lose the bike.
